Why Is My Shopify Store Not Getting Sales?
By Somil Grover, founder of Grotech Web
Your Shopify store is live, maybe getting some traffic, and the orders aren't coming. Before spending more on ads, run this diagnostic — stores almost always leak sales at one of seven points, in this order.
1. Is the traffic real and relevant?
Check your analytics: if visitors are bots, wrong countries, or bouncing from irrelevant ad targeting, more traffic won't help. A hundred visitors who actually want your product beat ten thousand who don't.
2. Does the store load fast on a phone?
Test your store on a mid-range phone over mobile data. If pages take 4+ seconds, a large share of shoppers never see your products. App bloat and uncompressed images are the usual suspects.
3. Do product pages answer buying questions?
- Multiple real photos, including scale and detail shots
- Sizing/specs/materials clearly stated
- Delivery time and cost visible before checkout
- Reviews showing — or an honest new-store alternative
- Returns policy one tap away

4. Does the store look trustworthy?
Default themes, stock photos, no About page, no contact info — shoppers read these as scam signals, especially on unknown brands. Real photos, a real story and visible contact options change conversion immediately.
5. Is checkout creating friction?
Every unexpected shipping cost, forced account creation or missing payment option bleeds orders. Check abandoned cart rate — above 70% usually means checkout surprises.
6. Is pricing credible?
Too high without brand justification loses to Amazon. Too low reads as fake. Compare honestly against alternatives your customer sees, and make your value case explicit.
7. Are you following up?
Abandoned cart emails, WhatsApp recovery and browse follow-ups recover 5–15% of otherwise-lost orders. If none of this runs automatically, you're leaving the easiest revenue uncollected.
